Need A Parking Space?
Look In Your Hand
In the NPR
article “Need A Parking Space? Look In Your Hand”(2011), Richard Gonzales
focuses on the SFpark app by discussing how finding parking is a problem that
people face on everyday life, especially in big cities. The city of San Francisco has a new
technology to solve this problem. SFpark is a smart phone app that shows
available parking places and the cost of the parking. There are two advantages
of SFpark app. The first advantage is there are sensors to show the driver if
there is an available parking in the area. The second advantage of the app is
to reduce the demand in certain areas by rising the prices of those
parking. There are other cities that
have used this technology too, such as Los Anglos and Fort Worth. Although
there are great advantages, there is a serious disadvantage that using the app
will distract the drivers from looking at the road and this will lead to many
problems. City officials are trying to decrease the risk by encouraging and
advising drivers to look to the app before they drive.
